Of course, even with all of this training, mechanics can still be surprised by the strange things that they encounter on the job. So, what are some of the craziest things that mechanics have said about my cars? Here are a few examples:

1. Hey, “There’s a potato wedged in your exhaust pipe.” Yes, you read that correctly. In one instance, a mechanic was called to diagnose a strange noise coming from my car’s exhaust.

After taking a closer look, the mechanic discovered that a potato had somehow become wedged in the exhaust pipe, causing the noise. That was hilarious, right? It’s not entirely clear how the potato got there, but it’s safe to say that this is not a common occurrence.

2.”Your car is possessed by a ghost.” In another case, a mechanic was looking at a problem with my Dodge Charger’s electrical system. Despite all of their efforts, the mechanic was unable to find the source of the issue. 

Eventually, he declared that the car was possessed by a ghost, causing the strange electrical problems. While this may seem like a joke, the mechanic was actually being serious, as they had truly exhausted all other possibilities for the cause of the issue.

3. One time I was driving my friend’s Chevrolet Camaro” and felt uncomfortable driving prompting me to see a mechanic. The mechanic cried out! hey, “There’s a mouse nest in your engine.” 

Mice and other small animals are known to sometimes seek shelter in car engines, and this can lead to all sorts of problems. In one instance, a mechanic discovered a mouse nest in the car’s engine, complete with a family of mice living inside.

Needless to say, this was a bit of a shock for the owner of the car after I narrated the story. But the mechanic was able to safely remove the nest and get the car running smoothly again.

Here is another amazing story my friend Dee Smith narrated to me. She recently took his two-year-old Honda Odyssey to a Honda dealership for an oil change because they were having a special. 

However, after the mechanic got to her car into the bay, he came out to her and told her in a somber and apologetic tone that his radiator was “gushing” fluid and that he would need a new one. It seemed like he was under the impression that she, as a handicapped woman driving a minivan, wouldn’t have a clue about cars.

Dee Smith went on, “I looked out to where my van had been parked before they took it back into the bay and pointed out that there was no wet spot on the ground. I also explained to him that the car had not been overheating and that I regularly check the levels of my fluid, which were fine when I brought the car in. 

Therefore, I insisted that he take me back to the bay and show me where this supposed leak in my radiator was. The mechanic looked like a deer in headlights and tried to make an excuse to go check the car again before I went back. 

However, at that point, I wasn’t going to let him near my car without me present, so I told him that I would follow him immediately to the service manager”.

“When we got to the service manager’s office, I took him with us out to my car and demanded to see the leak. After a lot of hesitation and searching for any kind of leak on my perfectly clean undercarriage, the technician pointed to a small line of something crusty around the head of a bolt on my power steering pump”. 

“As a machinist, I immediately recognized the substance as threadlock and told the service manager that I wanted that mechanic away from my car and that the oil change should be completed by someone else, because this individual couldn’t tell the difference between radiator fluid and thread seal”. 

“I also made it clear that I wasn’t going to pay for the oil change, as the technician had just tried to scam me for a $300 repair that I didn’t need. In the end, I left with the free oil change and reported their behavior to corporate, vowing never to return to that dealership again”. Was that a strange thing or not? lol..
